About Somazone

Somazone (www.somazone.com.au) is an Australian website that was developed by young people for young people. Somazone provides fast, free, anonymous access to quality assured information. A program of the Australian Drug Foundation (ADF), Somazone is a valuable resource for young people.

Somazone aims to empower young people to address their physical, emotional and social health needs in a way that is relevant, non-judgmental and anonymous. Somazone provides an anonymous question and answer service, publishes personal stories, and provides useful information on a range of youth services.

Somazone offers visitors an anonymous and professional Q&A service that provides clear, unbiased, non-judgmental answers to any questions they may have about drugs, sex, sexual health, mental health issues, harassment/abuse, relationships, body image and eating disorders. The answers are provided by a panel of health professionals. All of our health professionals are fully qualified and have undertaken an assessment and quality assurance process monitored by ADF management. Our health professionals generously provide their commitment, time and expertise on a voluntary basis. Questions are anonymously submitted to the website. These questions are forwarded to relevant health professionals and the answers are published on Somazone. All answers published remain on the site, creating a database of over 800 questions and answers for young people to refer to.

Somazone provides a safe space for visitors to share their stories and experiences with drugs, sex, mental health issues, harassment/abuse, relationships, body image and other issues. Stories are anonymously submitted to the website and published, adding to Somazone's ever increasing collection of insight and experience. In early 2004, as part of the redesign of Somazone, the "Add a comment" function was developed to allow young people visiting the site to submit comments in response to any of the stories published on the site.

A searchable database of Australian youth-friendly health services and organisations was added to the website in 2006. Somazone, whilst delivering quality information and providing a safe, youth-friendly space on the Internet, also encourages young people to build strong support networks through engaging with and utilising services in their communities.
