Does this mean I have an eating disorder?
Hi there and thanks for writing. It sounds like you are worried about your eating patterns and you have taken the first step, which is sometimes the hardest step, in wondering what is going on for you.
Before anyone is diagnosed with an eating disorder they need to have a comprehensive assessment by a professional. There may be lots of different reasons why your eating habits are like this so I would strongly suggest you make an appointment with your doctor or school nurse/counsellor. They can talk with you about your worries. They may ask you about yourself and your family so they can get a better understanding of who you are. If you don't feel comfortable in talking with them alone, you could ask a friend to go with you.
It's important to have a regular healthy eating pattern because our bodies need fuel, like cars need petrol. If we don't have regular meals our bodies start storing food, thinking we might starve. This can lead to other physical complications.
I wonder if you could think about having something to eat at regular times, like breakfast, lunch and then tea. You say you forget about eating because you're not hungry. Could you set an alarm at lunch time to remind yourself? If you do want to eat a bit more at night, having healthy snacks around can be helpful. Doing regular exercise goes hand in hand with having a healthy eating pattern. Exercise also helps people to feel good and release stress. It's also important to do things you find relaxing, because who you are and how you're feeling on the inside is important too!
I've given you some links below that you might find useful for more information. Hope this has helped. Take care.
