Is it possible to have a bad trip from a drug other than a hallucinogen?
Hi and thanks for asking.
Yes, it's possible to have a "bad trip" from drugs other than hallucinogens, such as ketamine, PCP (both often called psychedelic anesthetics) and GHB. It's also possible to have a "bad trip" after taking cannabis or ecstasy. Health professionals have also reported that some people have hallucinations after using some prescription medications.
The most common long-term side effect of using hallucinogens is the "flashback". Flashbacks are a re-experience of the drug and can happen days, weeks, months and even years later. Flashbacks can be triggered by the use of other drugs, or by stress, fatigue or physical exercise. The flashback experience can range from being pleasant to causing severe feelings of anxiety. They are usually visual and last for a minute or 2.
You may also be interested to know that there have been reported cases of LSD-induced psychosis and schizophrenia from one-off use of the drug.
I hope this helps. Have a look at the link below for more info on hallucinogens and their effects.
