Subutex is the brand name for buprenorphine, which is used to treat people who are dependent on heroin or other opiates, such as morphine.

How long Subutex stays in your system is complex and varies from person to person. It depends on things like how much was taken and how many days you have been taking it for.

Subutex is mainly excreted (got rid of) in your poo, however about 20% is excreted in urine. Some research has shown that a single dose may be detected up to 4–6 days after being taken. If you have been taking Subutex for a while, it may take a number of weeks to be out of your system.

If you are worried that Subutex will be detected during a drug test, it is not commonly screened for in a standard urine drug test. However, it's possible to detect burenorphine in an extended drug test, which test for additional drugs to the standard test, or for specific drugs (e.g. buprenorphine). However, extended drug tests aren't usually done unless the person or organisation asking for the test specifically asks for a certain drug to be tested.
