Q.

A.
Ibprofen (ibuprofen) is a drug belonging to the group known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It is available over-the-counter at pharmacies. It is used for pain relief in conditions such as headache, toothache, period pain, sporting injuries and arthritis.

Ibuprofen is meant to be taken orally, not snorted. There are risks associated with snorting including irritation and bleeding to the tissues of the nose and throat, more rapid absorption (and therefore higher blood levels) than when taken orally. It is possible to develop a psychological dependence on any substance that gives a "rush" feeling.

I strongly advise you to stop snorting the ibuprofen or at least reduce the frequency with which you are doing this. Weaning yourself off the drug by taking lower doses orally each day over a number of weeks may help if you cannot stop use immediately. Contact a drug and alcohol counselling service in your area for more information and support.
