Could i have an infection (sexual)? I am far too scared to get checked.
I had sex about 2 years ago but it was unprotected, and that was my 1st time i never used any protection. 2 days after it i had a urine infection, but got tablets n took it away.
I had a smear test last year and got blood taken as i've gotten sore stomachs since i was young, and had urine infections but it's all positive. My question is, could i have an infection (sexual)? I am far too scared to get checked. I feel sick when i think about going.
Hi there and thanks for your question. Yes it is possible that you could have an sexually transmissible infection (STI). STIs are very common and some can have no symptoms. If they do have symptoms, urine infections can be one of them.
Even having sex once can put you at risk of an STI so it is important that you get checked. It is only a simple urine test for the most common infections. A family planning or sexual health clinic is the best place to go, but any doctor you feel comfortable with would be okay too.
Although it is really scary, it is much better to find out and either be relieved that you are okay or get treated if you do have something, than to keep worrying or for things to get worse. Maybe you could ask a trusted friend or relative to go along with you. Remember that doctors and nurses see people for this sort of thing every day, and that you can also request a female doctor/nurse if you like.
All the best and take care.
