Q.
I have question about my wife. She is not getting pregnant. I have consulted with many doctors. They told me her ovary egg size is very small, that's why she is not getting pregnant. Plz tell me what i can do and what kind of medicine she can use.

Hi. It's hard if you are both wanting a pregnancy and baby and it's not happening. For any couple it can take a long time trying—over 12 months is not unusual.

It's hard to give you advice without more information from you. If your wife has a fertility problem, both of you need to talk to doctors and get a referral to a specialist fertility clinic. A lot can be done to help a woman fall pregnant, including hormone treatment to help mature and release the eggs, and IVF (fertilising the egg in a test tube). Usually a clinic will do tests on both of you, such as a sperm count on you and scans and blood tests on your wife. It sounds like you need good medical advice before it can be worked out what kind of medicine is needed.

Sometimes a pregnancy happens even when there are some fertility problems, so keep trying with the intercourse. Do you know when your wife ovulates (releases an egg)? Usually this is about the middle of her cycle (about day 12–14 after the first day of her last period). So the cycle for most women is about 28 days, with day one being when the period starts, and about 12–14 days later is when a ripe egg may be released from the ovary and may be fertilised by sperm. Sometimes it can help to have intercourse about that time of her cycle because that's when the egg is ready and available. If a pregnancy happens, the next period doesn't come.

I'm not sure what country you are writing from but chemists (pharmacies) in Australia have ovulation kits that can help a woman work out when she is releasing her egg. If they have fertility problems, some women may only release eggs in some months of their cycle and not in other months. So keep trying and try to see a specialist doctor for advice. Good luck!
