I don't know which is the safest condom to use.

Q.

First time having sex and i don't know which is the safest condom to use. I was wondering if you could list the different types of brands and the safest type of condom for my first time having sex.

Can i use a flavoured Pasante condom to have vaginal sex? Or will this be unsafe? I don't want to get my gf pregnant and we want to be safe.

A.

Hi and thanks for your question. It is fantastic that you and your girlfriend are thinking about condoms and protection before you start having sex.

As you said, there are many types of condoms available and they come in many shapes, sizes, flavours and colours.

All brands of condoms are rigorously tested before they are released onto the market for sale. If you are buying your condoms from a chemist or a supermarket then you can be assured of their quality.

All condoms that are tested are considered to be effective (they work) and safe. There are of course human errors that can make condom use less effective. This is why it is important to read the instructions that come with condoms and practice putting them on a few times before using them with a partner. Condoms should always be used with a water-based lubricant because this will reduce the chance of the condom breaking.

Flavoured condoms are designed for use during oral sex mainly, but they are still perfectly safe and acceptable for vaginal sex. They can add a little fun and excitement compared to the standard non-coloured, non-flavoured ones.

The most important thing is to find a condom that you feel comfortable wearing and that fits you. Condoms come in many shapes and sizes, so check the box to see which type and size is most suitable for you.

There are lots of brands of condoms. I don't know all of the UK brands, but some of the Australian brands (which are probably available in the UK too) include Durex, Ansell and Glyde. These are all safe and acceptable brands of condoms. All the best.
