Sometimes it hurts like he's going to poke a hole through me. Is that normal?

Q.

So my boyfriend and i got together and we feel like we are completely in love. I know we are young and everyone tells us that but i honestly can't see us ever breaking up and he can't either. We get along great and we are like best friends and have such a good time together.

A few months ago we believed it was time to take the next step and we did. At first it hurt but then i stopped feeling anything. Is that normal? And then when we did it a few times after that, like most of the time i feel like there is a wall he's pushing against and it's not always really comfortable. Sometimes it hurts like he's going to poke a hole through me ha and i just don't know what to do about it.

It almost seems like my vagina is shaped like weird but i mean he's my first i don't have much experience. And it's not like i really want to tlk to my parents about how it's supposed to feel when i have sex ha. Please help!

Hi there. It can be hard to know what is happening when it's your first time for sex for both of you.

What I think is happening is that your boyfriend might be angling his penis a bit wrong. It's unlikely that there is a problem with how you're built. The vagina is angled towards the small of your back and if he is angling his penis in another direction, he will hit the wall of the vagina. (You might have had this happen when you've got the angle wrong inserting a tampon).

Also make sure you are well-lubricated, whether from your own fluids or a bought, water-based lubricant because if you are dry that can make vaginal sex uncomfortable too. Vaginal sex shouldn't hurt, although most women find there's sometimes pain or discomfort if the penis hits against the wall of the vagina or the cervix.

It may also help to open up the outer vaginal lips with your hands so your boyfriend can slide inside easier.

Hope these suggestions help. If not, consider talking to a doctor or nurse. It would also be good to talk to them about protection from STIs and unwanted pregnancy. Take care of yourself.
