Is it possible for a doctor to see a scar if they were looking 'down there'?
Hi, um, long story short: I was raped when I was little, both front & back, plus a whole lot more horrible things. I heard that this could have torn me. My question is: is it possible for a doctor to see a scar if they were looking 'down there'?
I kinda want to know as sometimes I don't trust my memories because they're so disgusting—I wonder how anyone could have done that to a child. But also evidence because I kinda would like to look into pressing charges.
Also, if it's possible for them to detect that, what kind of doctor would I go to? It seems like a random question to ask them & I don't have a regular doctor.
Thanks for your question. Sorry to hear about what happened when you were little. That's an awful thing to have gone through.
It may be possible for a doctor to see scars "down there" but it would depend on the size of the scars and how much they have healed over the years.
If you don't have a regular doctor you know and trust, you could go to Family Planning Victoria's Action Centre in Melbourne. This is a service set up specifically to help young people with sexual health issues and they have doctors who can help you with this.
You might also like to speak to someone from a Centre Against Sexual Assault (CASA) near you. Counsellors from these services are experienced in supporting people with issues around past and recent rape and sexual assault. A CASA counsellor can help you with questions around your memories and with information and support about reporting to police. All services are free and confidential.
Good luck.
