I just recently quit marijuana but my problem is the symptoms. Will I be back to normal?
I just recently quit marijuana but my problem is the symptoms. Like I used to be loud, social and fun to be around before I smoked but now I'm quiet, calm, anti-social and I zone out of everything.
Also when someone engages conversation with me, I either take a long time to respond or I don't know what to say. If I do say something I screw up what I'm trying to say or I stutter and sometimes slur.
Sad part is I didn't do that much of the substance. I started about 2 years ago but I would take about 1–4 week breaks. I'm going to officially stop after 4/20 but would this wear off? How long would it take? Will I be back to normal?
Hi there, thanks for asking.
Taking breaks was a good idea, but you started using marijuana when your brain wasn't fully developed. The changes that are due to marijuana do wear off with time, but your brain is functioning differently now even without the drug, and it will take time (probably 12 months or more) before it has recovered fully.
That isn't as bad as it sounds, because everyone does a lot of maturing from 13–15. You go through a lot of changes, so and you come out the other end very different, which means that the other kids around your age will also be changing. You won't stand out, and unlike some, the changes that you go through are all going to be growth, recovery and improvement.
Try to be patient, avoid taking anything that could slow down your healing (marijuana obviously, but marijuana has made your nervous system very vulnerable to alcohol and other drugs too).
If you need some support, contact a youth or alcohol and other drug service near you. All the best.
