What are realistic alternatives for alcohol use?
I've stopped drinking alcohol for almost 6 months now. The biggest reason for relapse is the fun you have with alcohol at parties, discos etc.
I tried some pills like caffeine, energy drinks, even jack3d (a workout booster) and this stuff but it's not the same as alcohol. So i would like to ask you, what are realistic alternatives for alcohol use? (Even pills and this stuff .. legal ones.) Thank you.
Thanks for asking us and well done for stopping drinking.
The most realistic and practical alternative is practice! It takes quite a bit of time to adapt to enjoying life without artificial stumuli and social lubricants, like alcohol, but investing time and energy in searching for one isn't going to help—quite the opposite.
Many people never use drugs (legal or otherwise); they still have a good time. So can you, but it won't happen unless you give yourself a chance. This anxiety to find a substitue for alcohol, to replace one drug with another, is a "fool's errand". It's also a denial of your own innate value.
It's harder not to relapse if you only mix with people who need to drink to enjoy life, and drink a lot. It's easiest if you spend more time with people who drink little or not at all.
There are quite a few leisure activities that actually only work if you don't drink (e.g. motor sports). Look into those and into groups who don't drink. Look especially for people for whom not drinking isn't a big issue. Putting a lot of emphasis on sobriety (not drinking) can sometimes add extra pressure that's just not needed.
All the best!
