Am i still growing, and why did i develop so early?

Q.

Hey um this is kind of awkward but i have been going through puberty since i was 6 and a half. I've had my period since i was 9 and was 5'7 in the 6th grade and was wearing a 36 C bra in the 8th grade.

Am i still growing, and why did i develop so early? It just feels so awkward and out of place with being so developed.

A.

Hi there, thanks for your question. It sounds like you feel you have developed faster than your friends and are worried about this.

We all develop at different rates. You may have noticed some of your friends have now started to catch up to you, and some may even go on to be taller or have larger breasts than you once their bodies have finished growing. We are all unique and things happen at different times. You won't always feel awkward and out of place even though you feel like that now.

Puberty and development happens at different times for different people. In girls, puberty can start as early as 8 or 9 and usually finishes around 18 years of age. Guys can continue to grow and develop up until they're about 21.

It sounds like you started to develop at an early age. It's not uncommon for girls to start their period at 9. Girls tend to be developing earlier than previous generations and there is no real explanation as to why. It's hard to say why you developed so early, but it's normal and you are not alone.

At 15 you still have some growing and developing that could possibly happen, such as increased height and weight. But since you started to develop at an earlier age it's likely that you won't grow too much more. For more information on puberty and development check out the link below.

If you are really worried about your growth, talk to a doctor or a paediatrician (children and young person's doctor). All the best.
