At what age do breasts stop growing?

Q.

At what age do breasts stop growing? I am 22 years old and am on the pill (have been for nearly 12 months) and i have noticed my breasts have grown over the last few months and are slightly tender and sore around the armpit area. Are they just growing due to hormones or could it be something else?

A.

Breast development varies from female to female. During puberty breast development usually takes around three to five years, however for some girls it can take close to 10 years. Some females will also develop rounder and/or fuller breasts around their early twenties.

Hormones in the contraceptive pill can cause breasts to increase in size. When breast are developing they can be sore or tender. They can also become sore or tender during different stages of a females menstrual cycle.

It is hard to say for sure why you are experiencing tenderness and soreness around your armpit area, but if you are concerned then I would suggest you see you doctor for a check up.
