Is it just irritation from me shaving?

Q.

I shave my pubic area and sometimes i get pimple-like bumps outside my vagina. Is it just irritation from me shaving? I shave every day, and they hurt like pimples do.

A.

Hi there, thank you for your question. It sounds as though these bumps are causing you some pain and you are worried about them.

You have said you shave your pubic area every day so it is most likely that the bumps you are experiencing are a form of irritation. They could be ingrown hairs, which are common in the pubic area if you shave.

If you have had genital contact with a partner, the bumps may be a sexually transmitted infection (STI). STIs can be passed from one infected person to another during unprotected sexual intercourse or genital skin-to-skin contact. The bumps you described may be genital warts or herpes.

The best person to ask to work out exactly what the bumps are is your doctor or a women's health nurse. By looking at the bumps, they will be able to give you a more accurate diagnosis and offer treatment.
