Does this mean I'm getting my period soon or something?
Just a question on vaginal discharge.
I'm turning 13 in a week and lately my vaginal discharge has increased slightly. I do not have my period yet and I have been getting vaginal discharge for about a year now. I know it's the normal way of cleaning out the vagina etc. because I have done some research on it, but in the past 2 weeks it's increased in amount and I get it more times in a day. I have to change my underwear 4 times a day now because it gets all wet and even sometimes (though rarely) soaks through a bit and is really uncomfortable. Before I hardly noticed it but now I always do.
Like I said before, I have done a bit of research on it but I would still like to find out a bit more info on it. Does this mean I'm getting my period soon or something?
Hi. Clear or white vaginal secretions (discharge) are normal. All women and girls have these secretions but around the time of ovulation (when an egg is released from the ovary) the secretions can feel quite wet for a few days. After that the secretions become more cloudy and can sometimes be seen as a dull stain on underwear.
Periods normally start anywhere between the ages of 9–15 years, so yes, your periods may be about to start.
However, needing to change your underwear four times per day because you feel wet and uncomfortable does seem a bit unusual and should be checked out. There are some common vaginal infections which are not sexually transmitted that could be causing the increased discharge. It would good to talk to your local doctor or nurse regarding this or to see someone at your local family planning clinic. Take care.
